Lao Tzu on leadership

The Ursula K. Le Guin version of the Tao Te Ching is my favorite, and this chapter is a beautiful articulation of a leadership philosophy that I highly respect.

Chapter 17 Acting Simply

True leaders
are hardly known to their followers.
Next after them are the leaders
the people know and admire;
after them, those they fear;
after them, those they despise.

To give no trust
is to get no trust.

When the work's done right,
with no fuss or boasting,
ordinary people say,
Oh, we did it.

Reusable grocery bag: Be the change you want to see

Here's the (probably finished) design (PDF) for the reusable grocery bags that V.I.B.E. is having made in collaboration with Northern Tier Solid Waste Authority. NTSWA is paying for the whole project so we can give the bags away for free!

The quote is from Mahatma Gandhi, the nonviolent revolutionary who lead the movement to free India from British colonialism: "You must be the change you want to see in the world."

Another Gandhi quote: “Live as if you were to die tomorrow. Learn as if you were to live forever.”
